Don't Silence the People

Access is everything in politics. For most Americans, the only access we have to our elected representatives these days is through email. Now Congress seems to have had enough of even that.

Recently Congressional offices began implementing a new technology, called Logic Puzzles, that will effectively block millions of emails from the constituents they represent. In a time when our political culture is increasingly becoming a pay to play exercise, any limit placed on the ability of ordinary citizens to make their voices heard is an unacceptable threat to our democratic principles and First Amendment rights.

While not all members of Congress have implemented this new technology, many have and many more will soon. Join us to urge Congress to reject this threat to free speech and free assembly and make sure the people are not silenced.

Dear Lawmaker:

I recently learned that Congress is implementing a new technology that will block email communications from ordinary citizens like me to our elected officials. While you may not yet be aware of this technology (called Logic Puzzle), I strongly urge you to not implement this new function and disable it if your office already has started using it.

Technologies like "Logic Puzzle" enable Congressional offices to block millions of real constituent messages from real people who expect - and elected you - to listen to them. I believe the use of such technology is a threat to my First Amendment rights.

As my elected representative you owe it to me to listen to my concerns, whether I choose to correspond with you via email, postal mail, or fax. Please don't silence the people.

Sincerely,
Your Name
